The Emergency Ambulance Service launched with assistance from the Indian Government is now being successfully implemented. Another stage of this programme was launched in Gampaha today.
This Emergency Ambulance Service has been launched with the purpose of extending facilities for the transport of a patient to a hospital within the first few minutes. It is a programme launched in the island in response to a request made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is absolutely a grant given by India.
The Indian Government has spent a sum of 7.6 million dollars on this project. The Ambulance Service which is operating round the clock can be approached by dialing 1990 from any network. This Emergency Ambulance is operating under the Police.
The function to provide new ambulances on behalf of the Gampaha District took place at the Gampaha District Secretariat.16 Ambulances were gifted for the operation of the Ambulance Service. Among those who joined in this occasion were Ministers Arjuna Ranatunge and John Amaratunge, State Minister Ruwan Wijewardena and Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva.
