Distribution of postal voting cards begins. Official poll cards to be mailed on the 18th

The distribution of postal voting cards commenced today. This has been revealed by Elections Commissioner General R.M.A.L. Ratnayake.
The distribution of postal voting cards with regard to the Local Government polls commenced in several Districts today. The distribution of all official poll cards of the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Batticaloa Districts commenced today. Also the distribution of official postal voting cards in the Gampaha, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura Districts began today. These were due to be handed over to the Postal Authorities this afternoon to be distributed among the postal voters. The release of official postal voting cards of all other Districts will commence tomorrow. These were due to be handed over to the Postal Department by tomorrow afternoon for distribution.
The marking of the postal ballot papers will take place at the Police, Election Offices and District Secretariats throughout the island on the 22nd of this month and the marking of these ballot papers is scheduled to take place on the 25th and 26th of this month at the public offices and all other institutions including the defence forces.
In the meantime the Elections Commissioner General pointed out that the official postal voting cards will be mailed on the 18th of this month. He further said that the 28th of this month has been declared as a special day for the distribution of postal voting cards.
Mr. Ratnayake said that official poll cards with respect to the Local Government polls are due to be handed over to the Postal Department on the 18th of this month for distribution among the households. January 28th has been declared as a special day for the distribution of official poll cards. The distribution of these official poll cards will continue until the 04th of February. He requested that at least one member of the households should remain in the houses to accept these official poll cards.
