Decision on the brawl in Parliament is tomorrow

The report on the altercation in Parliament yesterday has been

handed over to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The brawl surfaced when Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was making clarifications on the removal of Army Officers deployed for the security of Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and replacing them with Police Officers. Several MPs sustained injuries in this fracas.
Parliamentarian Sandith Samarasinghe who suffered injuries was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The Speaker entrusted Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala and Deputy Chairman of Committee Selvam Adaikalanathan to inquire and report on the incident.
Accordingly, the Speaker informed Parliament today that the inquiry report had been forwarded to him. He pointed out that the Parliamentary Committee would be meeting tomorrow morning to discuss the report.
The Speaker also informed Parliament that suitable action would be instigated against the MPs involved in the incident. Parliament proceedings were initially suspended for five minutes due to the tense situation within the chambers which ended in fisticuffs between two groups of MPs.
