Daily News, a publication of Lake House, marked its centenary anniversary. The centenary celebrations were held at Lake House under the aegis of Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera. Daily News newspaper was inaugurated on the 3rd of January, 1918. The special edition of Daily News, which was printed to mark the 100th anniversary, was presented to Minister Mangala Samaraweera. Lake House Chairman Krishantha Cooray, General Manager Abe Amaradasa and several other distinguished people were also present on the occasion.
Daily News was founded by Mr. D.R. Wijewardene and an Englishman named Cownder was the first Editor. Ever since then, the newspaper has been guided by twenty-six editors. Senior journalist Lalith Alahakoon is the current editor. Daily News has made history as a newspaper by completing a century uninterruptedly in South Asia.
