Customs apprehend suspect with gold worth 70 million rupees

The Customs apprehended a passenger who arrived at around 1.00 am today from Dubai in the FZ 555 flight for attempting to smuggle in gold. The Katunayake Customs seized 10 kilograms of gold that was packed in a subtle manner in his travelling bag.
Deputy Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake said that the value of the contraband was around 70 million rupees. It is reported that this air passenger who is about 39 years of age is a resident of Colombo.
The haul contained a large amount of bangles, gold chains, and bracelets. Further investigations are in progress on the instructions of the Airport Customs Director Rohitha Uduwawala.
