The judiciary has decided that Minister Champika Ranawaka cannot be named

a suspect for the motor accident in Rajagiriya injuring a youth. Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya said that the Minister cannot be named a suspect considering all reports and evidence.
The Additional Magistrate said the Court made this decision based on the facts and the reports submitted to court, including the Government Analyst’s Report and the telephone records.
Furthermore, it was observed that there was a clear discrepancy in the testimonies given by witnesses. They had first claimed the driver had driven the vehicle and five days thereafter had submitted affidavits claiming that Mr. Ranawaka was the driver. He said this discrepancy should also be investigated.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate directed the police to file a charge sheet against the driver of the vehicle on August 10th.
One youth was seriously injured in the accident when his motorbike collided with a jeep of Minister Ranawaka.
