A writ petition has been filed in the Appeals Court saying that the claiming that the election of Geetha Kumarasinghe to Parliament is unconstitutional as she hold dual citizenship. Notices were issued on the defendant to appear in Court on the 19 of next month.
The writ petition has been filed by five residents in Galle. They claim Geetha Kumarasinghe holds dual citizenship in Switzerland as well as in Sri Lanka. As such the petitioners state that her election to Parliament is unconstitutional. The petitioners are therefore calling on the judiciary to issue an order saying that her election is illegal. Drawing attention to this petition, the Appeals Court ordered the issue of notices on four respondents including Geetha Kumarasinghe to appear in Court on the 19th of next month.
