Countrywide programme to raise awareness on Suraksha is operative

Today is the Suraksha Student Insurance Day. The island wide programme to raise awareness on this effort is operative from today.
“Let’s protect the children of our nation,” is the theme of the Suraksha Student Insurance day. The national commemoration foundation was organized at Anula Vidyalaya in Nugegoda. It was held under the patronage of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. The National Students Insurance Cover on behalf of the health insurance of the children of the nation was launched on the 01st of October, parallel to the World Children’s Day.
Several children have already received benefits under this scheme. The Education Ministry took the initiative of naming the Suraksha Student Insurance Day on the 07th of December with the purpose of further educating the school children and parents as well as the school based community. Each student is entitled to an insurance benefit of 200,000 rupees annually.
Nearly 4.5 million children of 11,242 schools including all Government schools, private schools that do and do not receive assistance, international schools as well as Pirivenas are entitled to this insurance benefit. All students are entitled to this health insurance facilities for which the Government is spending around five billion rupees.
The official ceremony with respect to the Suraksha Student Insurance Day was held at the Gothami Balika Vidyalaya within the Colombo Education Zone. It was organized under the patronage of Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala. It was declared on the occasion that initiatives taken on behalf of the future children keeping aside the political needs, was laudable. Among those who joined in the occasion was School Principal Subashani Dematagoda.
The programme to raise awareness on the Suraksha Insurance and the awarding of insurance benefits were held at the Mawathagama Prince College in Kurunegala. Among those who joined in the occasion was a group including Parliamentarian J.C. Alawathuwala.
The Suraksha Student Insurance Day was also commemorated at the Hatton Highland Central College. Hatton Zonal Education Director P. Shritharan and school Principal R. Shritharan was among those who joined in this event.
