15,760,867 are eagerly waiting to elect 8,356 members to rule their villages. The number of candidates who are in the fray for the 2018 Local Government polls is 57,219.

Voting to elect members for 340 local Councils is scheduled to take place on Saturday the 10th. The casting of votes will begin at 7.00 am and close at 4.00 p.m. Polling will take place for 24 Municipal Councils, 41 Urban Councils and 278 Pradeshiya Sabhas. Members will be elected for 4903 divisions. The number of officials who will be on duty will be 173,383. There will be 13,374 polling booths while the number of Supervision Zones will be 3084.
There will be 6823 Counting Centres. The counting of postal votes will be carried out at 3852 centres. The Elections Commission said that 14,410 vehicles will be used for election purposes.
In the meantime, officials of the Police and civil defence forces who are posted for election duty have been informed to report to their service divisions.
Accordingly the number of Police Officers who will be on duty is 65,758 while there will be 5953 members of Civil Defence Force on duty.
Ballot boxes are already being despatched to the main centres.
