The Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court has directed the Criminal
Investigations Department to conclude Police investigations in connection with the death of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena before the 18th of this month.
The direction was made when the case was taken up for hearing before Additional Magistrate Prasanna Fernando this afternoon.
Meanwhile, former ASP of Embilipitiya Police Station, Chamil Dharmaratne, who was arrested and remanded in connection with the incident, has been further remanded until May 18th.
The former Embilipitiya ASP was arrested on suspicion over the death of Jayawardena, a father of one, who died following the clash involving police officers and villagers during a celebration at his residence.
