China lauds President’s programme to develop the country

China’s Minister of Defence and State Advisor General Chang Wanquan has said that a strong foundation has been laid under the incumbent President for Sri Lanka’s economic, social and people’s welfare. The China’s visiting Defence Minister expressed this view when he called on President Maithripala Sirisena. China’s Minister of Defence and State Advisor General Chang Wanquan met President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Official Residence this morning.
The President recalled the long standing ties between Sri Lanka and China. The President commended the support received from China for Sri Lanka’s independence and national security. The Chinese Government imparted training opportunities for a long period for the Sri Lankan Security Forces. Expressing his gratitude for this support, the President lauded the assistance given by China to Sri Lanka during the war. He said that many agreements will be signed with China due to existing friendly ties between the two countries. It was emphasized on this occasion that the agreements will not harm Sri Lanka’s pride, independence and national security.
The Chinese Defence Minister expressing optimistic views on the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka, conveyed the satisfaction of the Chinese Government in this respect. He also extended the greetings of the Chinese President to President Maithripala Sirisena.
60 years had passed since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and China and the Chinese Defence Minister said that China’s desire was to further strengthen these ties.
