The Cabinet has approved the implementation of guidelines
for maintaining buildings in public institutions as environment friendly green buildings. The proposal was made by the President. More proposals also received Cabinet approval.
Sensitive sections have been introduced to the new syllabus of science subject from grade 6 to 11, with the view of educating students on facing future challenges of climate change. Accordingly the Cabinet approved a programme to increase the awareness of teachers on environment studies for changing the attitudes of school children regarding the environment.
Cabinet nod was given to increase the annual grant awarded to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society from 550 thousand to two million rupees.
The Government is implementing a number of programmes to crackdown the dengue mosquito. Accordingly the Government has decided to amend the Prevention of Mosquito Breeding Act no. 11 of 2007 to rectify deficiencies currently prevailing in the Act.
Sri Lanka and Australia are scheduled to enter into a Development Cooperation Agreement. It received Cabinet approval.
