Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that the consensual Government
is safeguarding the Buddha Sasana not by word but by deed. The Prime Minister made this observation participating in a function held at the Veheragoda Puranana Vihare in Sedawatte.
The vesting of the Bodhi Maluwa, the Bodhi Prakaraya, the Chaithya, the Dharma Salawa and the Library Mandiraya of the Veheragoda Purana Maha Vihare in Sedawatte took place under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. The construction of the Bodhi Prakaraya took place through a personal contribution made by the Prime Minister.
After engaging in religious observances, the Prime Minister addressing the public, emphasized that the necessary initiatives have been taken to hold a Theravadhi Buddhist Congress in the year 2018.
The Prime Minister presented a memento to the Ven. Abanwela Gnanaloka Thera appreciating the services discharged by the Thera for the religion. The Prime Minister was also presented with a memento.
Parliamentarian S.M. Marikkar also addressed the gathering.
Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Prof. Maithri Wickremasingher were among those present on the occasion.
