Bail application of Lalith Weeratunge and Anusha Pelpita to be taken up tomorrow

Former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge and former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Anusha Pelpita were recently sentenced to imprisonment for misuse of money. The High Court has ordered to take up for consideration an application seeking bail tomorrow. The High Court convicted them for misusing funds to the tune of 600 million rupees of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and sentenced them to three years rigorous imprisonment. Both of them were separately fined two million rupees. In addition, when High Court Judge Gehan Kulatunge delivered the verdict on the 07th of this month, each of them was ordered to pay a compensation of 50 million rupees to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
Lalith Weeratunge and Anusha Pelpita have filed two appeals petitions challenging the High Court verdict. The bail applications submitted by them will be taken up tomorrow.
