Australia commends the efforts Government’s to build the country through good governance

Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovations and Trade Philip Dalidakis has lauded the initiatives taken by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe to unite the country. He was of the view that as a result the economic challenges can easily be surmounted.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe attended a lunch hosted by the Victorian entrepreneurs in Australia, who are keenly interested in investments and businesses in Sri Lanka. This lunch was hosted by Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovations and Trade Philip Dalidakis.
Before joining in this lunch Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and Philip Dalidakis held discussions. At the talks, Philip Dalidakis emphasized that relations between Sri Lanka and Australia should be strengthened to upgrade economic, cultural, national education and agricultural sectors. The Colombo Port is a significant hub for trade activities. He said that the visit by the Sri Lankan Prime Minister encouraged the Victoria State to make use of it. Philip Dalidakis mentioned that maximum support would be extended to uplift the education sector in Sri Lanka.
Premier Wickremasinghe pointing out that since countries such as Britain and the United States have expanded immigration and emigration regulations to obtain education for Sri Lankan children, stated that he expected this opportunity from Australia too.
The necessary environment has been created to direct Australian investors to undertake investment in Sri Lanka. Philip Dalidakis said that any challenge can be overcome if Sri Lanka and Australia worked in unison. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe stating that Sri Lanka has taken every initiative to uplift the economy, pointed out that their intention was to make the island nation an economic hub in the South Asian region. The Prime Minister instructed the Sri Lankan High Commission to embark on discussions to solicit support of Victoria in this respect.
Agreement has been reached to explore possibilities of establishing close relations between Victoria and Sri Lanka. This agreement was reached during talks between Ranil Wickremasinghe and Prime Minister of Victoria Daniel Andrews. Their discussions also dealt at length on education, higher education and post graduate education spheres. Views were also exchanged on securing investments and expertise knowledge for these fields. Discussions were also held on the possibilities of operating Education institutions in Sri Lanka for the awarding of degrees identifying the needs of countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh, to meet Sri Lanka’s aims. Victoria has focused attention on imparting investment and technological knowledge for the setting up of educational institutions in Sri Lanka on subjects such as Information Technology and hosting services. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister invited the Victorian Prime Minister to visit Sri Lanka to identify the projects that could be jointly launched strengthening the friendly ties. He said that he would secure an opportunity in this respect next year.
