The Army Headquarters has said that the war heroes should not be used to achieve narrow aims and private agendas.
Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake issuing a statement said that gratitude should be expressed to the war heroes sans impulsive actions.
19th of this month marks the completion of nine years since the routing of terrorists from the country. The announcement mentioned that the freedom gained should be enjoyed without boasting or booming. Mahesh Senanayake said that the security forces succeeded in liberating hundreds of thousands of Tamil civilians who were used as a human shield defeating the LTTE outfit that worked with the support of the Diaspora for the building of an Eelam State. The Army Commander said that a special programme should be crafted by the Army to commemorate the war heroes of the Army killed in the war.
A special message issued by the Army Commander will be read at every Regimental Centre while religious observances are scheduled to be held remembering the war heroes.
The Army will be making an active contribution to the Ranaviru commemorative function to be held near the National Ranaviru Centre on the 19th of this month. The Army will also make its contribution to the Aloka Pooja that is scheduled to be held at the Raja Maha Vihare in Kelaniya.
The Army Commander pointed out that it is the onus of everyone to act intelligently keeping in mind that a war should not recur.
