Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered former Parliamentarian Anuruddha Polgampola to be remanded till 18th of this month.
The suspect was remanded based on an arrest warrant issued previously. Anuruddha Polgampola had breached bail conditions as he did not appear before the Kilinochchi Magistrate on the 4th of this month. Polgampola has been accused of cheating more than 11 million rupees by issuing returning cheques for a transaction relating to soil.
Meanwhile, former chief of the Army Intelligence Unit Major General Amal Karunasekera has been re-remanded till the 30th of this month in connection with assaulting journalist Keith Noyahr. Additional Magistrate of Mt. Lavinia Lochini Abeywickrama gave the order. The Criminal Investigation Department was also allowed to record a statement from him while he is in the remand.
Meanwhile, the Colombo High Court ordered to take up a case filed against Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa on the 6th of next month. The case has been filed by the Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigations Commission. The Commission states that Wimal Weerawansa has acquired property worth 75 million rupees in a time period of six years without legitimate explanation. It is revealed that he has earned the wealth when he was serving as a Minister. He has been charged under 39 incidents.
