Another eight Indian fishermen taken into custody for illegally entering Sri Lankan waters have been freed.
The released eight fishermen were handed over to the Indian Coastguard in the international waters, North of Kankesanthurai. This was done with the mediation of the Sri Lankan Navy and officials of the Coastguard Department. These fishermen who were taken in a CG 47 speedy trawler of the Coastguard Force was handed over to the Abheek vessel of the Indian Coastguard. Earlier too, 77 Indian fishermen who were in the custody of Sri Lanka have been handed over in this manner to the Indian authorities. Indian authorities have also freed 12 fishermen in their custody and handed over to Sri Lanka.
