Armed Forces deserters are given an opportunity to rejoin the forces. The Defence Ministry has announced a month’s amnesty for them to rejoin their forces. At a news conference in Colombo, it was emphasized that the amnesty will begin on the 13th of this month.
Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi announced that this amnesty has been declared for soldiers who are staying away without securing leave. The declaration of this amnesty will be beneficial to both sides. If anyone has to pay less than 10,000 rupees during this period, it will be waived off.
Additional Defence Secretary Siripala Hettiarachchi pointed out that the amnesty is valid for a period of one month from the 13th of this month. Noteworthy is the validation of the amnesty for all members of the Armed Forces at the same time. He said that this is a good opportunity for the deserters to surrender to the nearest Post.
