Airport Customs nab two women with gold jewellery worth 40 million rupees

Customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport have nabbed two Sri Lankan women who attempted to smuggle in gold jewellery worth around 40 million rupees.
The suspects had arrived from Dubai this morning when they were intercepted by officers of the Customs Narcotics unit of the Airport Customs. They discovered gold jewellery during a search carried out on two women who were around 45 years of age. They are residents of Colombo while one of them is a Real Estate Business Consultant. The detection was made based on the intelligence gathered by the Customs Narcotic control Unit. The gold jewellery weighing 7.7 kilograms was concealed in a girdle having being packed in 8 packets.   Deputy Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake said that they were pursuing further investigations with respect to the suspects.
