The Supreme Court has appointed a five-member bench of judges to hear the President’s request for Supreme Court’s opinion on serving for six years in his office. Chief Justice Priyasath Dep has appointed the bench. Accordingly, the bench of judges includes Chief Justice Priyasath Dep and judges Eva Wanasundara, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira de Abrew and K.K Chitrasiri. The President had asked the Supreme Court whether he could function as the President till year 2021 as he assumed duties in office for a period of six years in terms of Article 32 (1) of the Constitution since 09th of January 2015. The Supreme Court’s interpretation of this will be sent to the President before Sunday.
