The 3rd reading of the 70th Budget of Independent Sri Lanka was passed with a majority of 110 votes in Parliament yesterday. The Budget is considered to have laid the foundation for a major development of the country while giving many benefits to the public. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayaka presented the budget proposals in Parliament. Following a debate about the budget proposals the Government secured more than two thirds of the votes at the 2nd reading of the budget. Thereafter Committee staged debates commenced. The vote on the 3rd reading was taken yesterday following several days of debating. 156 members voted for the budget while 55 voted against. Accordingly the budget for 2017 was passed in parliament with a majority of 110 votes.
