President calls for high value of all sectors related to environment conservation

President Maithripala Sirisena has emphasized that a key responsibility is vested with everyone to dedicate themselves to fulfil their tasks providing a high value for all sectors related to environment conservation. The President laid this stress joining in the launch of the “Vana-ropa” National Tree Planting Programme.
The launch of the “Vanaropa” National Tree Planting Programme was held at the Kandetenna Tank premises at Delthota in Kandy this morning under the patronage of the President. This programme is being jointly organized by the President’s Office and the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment. The main objective of this Renaissance Environment Conservation National Programme is to safeguard the catchment areas and increase the forest density.
At the function held this morning, a book compiled on the conservation of catchment areas was handed over to the President. Symbolizing the “Vanaropa” National Tree Planting Programme, fruit plants were distributed among school children under the patronage of the President.
Addressing the function, President Maithripala Sirisena said that the country will have to face a great tragedy in the future if responsibilities are not appropriately discharged giving value to the earth and the environment.
A large gathering including many Parliamentarians was present on the occasion.
