Two giant pandas from China arrive in Copenhagen

Two giant pandas from southwest China’s Sichuan Province arrived in Copenhagen on Thursday, to start their 15-year sojourn in Demark. Male Xing Er, a five-year-old, and female Mao Er, a four-year-old, will live at their new home in Copenhagen Zoo. Two cabinet ministers of Denmark went to the airport to welcome the pandas. According to Minister for Environment and Food of Denmark, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, the two pandas were transported in green boxes so as to ensure their safety and make the flight more comfortable. China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding also dispatched a work group to escort the two pandas on the flight.

The Chinese Embassy in Denmark also worked hard to make sure the pandas live well in Denmark. The pair of pandas will live in Copenhagen for 15 years, according to the agreement signed between the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and the zoo in 2017. China and Denmark first agreed on the program during Queen Margrethe II’s state visit to China in 2014.
