Robotic pharmacy in Saudi cuts patient queues, saves time

Patients in Saudi Arabia can now receive their medicine at pharmacies in less than ten seconds thanks to a new automation system to handle and dispense drugs to customers.

Gone will be the days of pharmacists deciphering doctor’s handwriting before manually trawling through shelves of different medicines for patients who usually cannot wait in long queues to get the needed medicine.

Al-Nahdi medical company, a leading Saudi retail pharmacy, is rolling out robots that scan prescriptions to prepare and dispense medicine, monitor drug safety and expiry dates as well as manage stocks.

The new “smart pharmacy” system aims to save employees time, a step the company says is essential to improve the shopping experience of the customers.
