Israel appoints new army chief of staff

Israel appointed a new chief of staff in an official ceremony in Tel Aviv, attended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Aviv Kohavi was sworn in as the 22nd chief of staff, replacing outgoing chief, Lieutenant-General Gadi Eizenkot.

Netanyahu said the issue of Iran has topped the agenda during Eizenkot’s term and will continue into Kohavi’s. The military change of command was later held at the defence ministry.

Kochavi, 54, was the head of Military Intelligence and the Northern Command, as well as deputy chief of staff.
