CCTV footage shows gunmen entering Nairobi office complex before attack

Several gunmen were seen entering an upscale hotel and office complex in Nairobi where more than a seven people were killed, CCTV footage obtained by Reuters showed. Gunmen blasted their way into 14 Riverside Drive complex in the Kenyan capital, killing at least 14 people and sending workers diving under desks from an attack claimed by Somali Islamist group al Shabaab. Multiple wounded victims of a militant attack are still trapped inside the complex nearly eleven hours after the attack began, an emergency responder told Reuters. Many of the victims were pleading for first aid, said the responder, who was in touch with some of them. The responder spoke three hours after Kenya’s interior minister said the buildings had been secured. Kenya has often been targeted by al Shabaab, who killed 67 people at the Westgate shopping centre in 2013 and nearly 150 students at Garissa university in 2015. Al Shabaab says its attacks are revenge for Kenyan troops stationed inside Somalia, which has been riven by civil war since 1991.
