Wimal ordered to pay ten million rupee compensation to Tilwin

The Colombo Commercial High Court has ordered Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa to pay ten million rupees to General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Tilvin Silva.

This fine was imposed on Wimal Weerawansa ruling that he had published the book “Neththa Wenuwata Aththa“violating the Intellectual Property Act after leaving the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. High Court Judge Ruwan Fernando ruled that the defence party had violated the right of the complainant under the Intellectual Property Act, through the publication of this book. Also an interim order was issued preventing the printing and sale of this book.

Tilvin Silva had said that Wimal Weerawansa while serving as a member of the Central Committee of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had included various documents which had been discussed and that he had violated the Intellectual Property Act by quoting and publishing certain documents sans any permission.
