Switzerland through to Hopman Cup final despite Greece loss

Roger Federer’s Switzerland have reached the Hopman Cup final for a second consecutive year despite losing 2-1 to Greece in their final round robin tie. Their place in the final was confirmed when Federer beat exciting youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 7-6 in the tie’s opening match. The 20-time Grand Slam champion overcame a scare in the first set tie-break to come through in 93 minutes and secure the win needed to qualify for the final. In the women’s singles rubber, Greece’s Maria Sakkari beat Belinda Bencic 6-3 6-4 in 74 minutes. The Greek pair then got the better of the Swiss duo in the mixed doubles, but a 2-1 win wasn’t enough to see them overhaul the Swiss and qualify.
