Syria coach Stange sees huge potential in resource-poor team ahead of Asian Cup

Syria’s national team coach Bernd Stange said that his team was capable of becoming giants in Asian soccer if they had better resources at their disposal to help develop Syrian soccer talents as the side who have risen against all odds in recent years attempts to impress once more in next month’s Asian Cup. The German, who had formerly coached Syria’s neighbours Iraq, said he understood that Syrian priorities needed to be focused on rebuilding the war-torn country and offering basic services to its citizens. Stange said the team would play a defensive game that seeks to hit teams on the counter attack. Syria will play in Group B alongside Australia, Jordan and Palestine.
