School children tour China

A group of school children who won the first place from a National Arts Competition realized one of their dreams recently.Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka gave the opportunity to 11 school students who won the first place of an Arts Competition which was held under the subject “The China I See”, to tour China. The first three days they spent at Chinese capital Beijing. On the first day they visited the historic Tianman Square. It is the place where Mao Sethung announced the Chinese Republic after an imperialists rule. Therefore it is important to the people in China as the Independence Square in Sri Lanka to the Sri Lankans. The Sri Lankan students got the opportunity to view the Great Chines Wall which spreads from Eastern Dang Dong in Northern China to Western Lop Lake. It is considered as one of the seven wonders in the world. The Southern end of the wall goes up to Mongolia. Sri Lankan students walked on the wall ignoring even the severe cold prevailing at present. They were able to gain a lot of experiences at the Shibei Homae Arts Academy. The Chinese teachers instructed them on calligraphy and paintings. The students were able to understand cultural and historical importance, variety of the food culture at Wendu which is the capital of Shee Shuwan. They had the opportunity to view Panda Garden which is unique to China. The students exchanged views with students at a pre-school. Museums made them knowledgably about China and the modern mix of technology. Sri Lanka – China Media Guild and Wijaya Children’s Newspaper organized the event.
