Clean up the environment: drive a hydrogen fuel cell car

Driving through a congested city in the latest electric car powered by hydrogen and a fuel cell, will leave the air cleaner than if you’d left the car at home. According to South Korean car giant Hyundai, its latest hydrogen fuel cell car, the Nexo, needs clean, filtered, oxygen to function properly so it actively purifies the air as it drives along. Fuel cell electric cars store power as a gas rather than in a traditional battery, recovering it through a chemical reaction which requires hydrogen, oxygen and catalyst. Hyundai says its system will have a positive impact on air quality wherever a Nexo is driven. Hyundai say driving the Nexo for one hour purifies 26.9kg of air or driving one mile in the Nexo removes the equivalent pollution emitted over two miles in a diesel car.
