Cyclone Phethai makes landfall in India’s Andhra Pradesh

Cyclone Phethai made landfall on the coast of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, damaging crops, uprooting trees and knocking down electricity poles. One person was killed in a landslide following heavy rain in the city of Vijayawada. Footage showed locals taking shelter from heavy wind and rain in a bus and a school. Cyclone Phethai is the third cyclone to hit the coastal area. In November, Cyclone Gaja damaged thousands of houses and claimed 45 lives. Cyclone Titli wreaked havoc in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh states in October, killing over 50 people.
