Indonesian and Turkish cities swap plastic waste with free commutes

Cities in Indonesia and Turkey have implemented a scheme for residents to recycle plastic bottles in exchange for public transport. Simple and effective measures to tackling plastic waste have become a focus for many world governments, which are convening in Katowice, Poland for a climate change summit. Representatives from around 195 countries will attend the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from Dec. 2-14. This year’s is the most important since 2015, the year the Paris Agreement was signed with aims to limit temperature rises to “well below” 2 degrees Celsius this century and “pursue efforts” for a 1.5C limit.
