Protests against the Speaker

The people have condemned the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya violating Parliamentary traditions and acting partially. Protests were held in various parts of the island against the behavior of the Speaker. Meanwhile a campaign to obtain signatures of the public demanding to conduct a general election is also underway. A protest was staged at Kundasale, Manikhinna area protesting aagainst the Speaker acting in bias manner in Parliament.

The protesters say that an election should be held soon. Parliamentarian Keheliya Rambukwella and a group of people attended the protest. Meanwhile a campaign to obtain 500 hundred thousand signatures of the public demanding to hold a general election respecting the public opinion was launched in front of Deundara Sri Vishnu Dewalaya. It has been organized by Pevidihanda organization.

Signatures were also obtained near the historic Matara Bo Tree. President of the Pevidihanda organization Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera and the Maha Sangha were present on the occasion. Another program of the program to obtain signatures of the public took place in Bulathsinhala town. A large number of the people in the area expressed their support to the campaign.

Meanwhile a proposal stating that a general election should be conducted soon was passed at a special meeting of the Kuruwita Pradeshiya Sabha. The proposal was presented by the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha Premaratne Malkekula. 22 votes were received supporting the motion and 13 were against the motion.
