Drivers get set for Peru’s ‘crazy’ Dakar rally course

More details about the 2019 Dakar Rally were announced at a news conference in Paris.

A host of top drivers including 2018 champion Carlos Sainz, Sebastien Loeb and Stephane Peterhansel were all in attendance at the Peruvian embassy in Paris to hear more about the 2019 rally.

The race, which runs from January 6 – 17, takes place entirely in Peru, which is the first time the Dakar Rally has ever taken place inside just one country.

The ten-stage course is due to be 5000 kilometres long and with 70% of the course on sand.

Yamaha Racing’s 27 year-old French motorbike driver Adrien Van Beveren said the sandy course looks ‘crazy’ but that he cannot wait for the challenge.
