Protests against the conduct of the Speaker

Protesting against the Speaker’s conduct took place in several parts of the country. People point out that a general election should be called respecting the people’s franchise.
A protest was held against the Speaker’s biasness in Matale with the participation of MatalePradeshiya Sabha Chairman KapilaBandaraHendeniya and several other political representatives.
Another protest was organized by the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramuna in Welimada to condemn the biased conduct of the speaker. WelimadaPradeshiya Sabha Opposition Leader IndikaSampathJayasundara and several other members of the Pradeshiya Sabha participated in the demonstration.
People who oppose the Speaker’s conduct say that the crisis in the Parliament was created due to the behavior of the Speaker. This was stated at a protest which was held at the Medawachchiya town demanding the dissolution of the Parliament and the conduct of a general election to ensure the supremacy of the people’s power.
Former Chief Minister S.M Ranjith and former provincial minister K. Nandasena were among those who attended the protest.
Meanwhile, a protest was held in Dehiowita to protest the unconstitutional behavior of the speaker. Former MP TharakaBalasooriya, former Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, MaheepalaHerath and former Provincial Councilor AjithShaminda also joined the event.
A demonstration was also held in Horana condemning the actions of the Speaker. Parliamentarian ViduraWickramanayake and residents in the area participated in this event. The demonstrators paraded from the Vidyarathana junction to Horana town.
