Demonstrations staged countrywide calling for immediate elections

Demonstrations have been staged in many parts of the country calling for an immediate general election and protesting the action of the Speaker.
Coconuts were dashed at the Seenigama Devale with the participation of members of the Podujana Peramuna of the Southern Provincial Council. Members Sampath Athukorale, Channa Sri Saliya Mendis, Ariyawansa Sammu and Pathmasiri de Silva were among those who joined in this protest.
Pradeshiya Sabha members representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Podujana Peramuna who gathered opposite the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha staged a protest. The demonstrators called for the immediate holding of a general election and protecting democracy. The people also accused the Speaker of being bias.
The protest staged in the Middeniya town was held under the patronage of Southern Provincial Councillor Kapila Dissanayake and Chairman of the Katuwana Pradeshiya Sabha Mahinda Gamachchi. Many people in the area too joined in this protest.
A protest campaign was held in the Weeraketiya town demanding the immediate holding of a general election. A protest walk was also organized parallel to the event. It was organized by Ministers and members of the Southern Provincial Council.
Another demonstration was also staged in Polonnaruwa protesting the actions of the Speaker and calling for the holding of an immediate general elections. People’s representatives as well as a large gathering of Polonnaruwa joined in this protest.
