Beach drone drops life jackets to struggling swimmers

It’s not just lifeguards keeping a watchful eye on swimmers on the Spanish beach at Puerto de Sagunto. They are being helped by a specially-designed drone to help monitor the beach near Valencia. GeneralDrones’ Auxdron lifeguard drone can be used to locate people in the water, sending a live video feed back to operators on the beach. It also has a self-inflating life jacket stowed onboard that can be released to swimmers, keeping them afloat until lifeguards can reach them. The drone bodies are made of water-resistant carbon fibre and have eight propellers and motors at the ends of its four arms. It was put to the test in August 2018 when swimmers were caught in rip currents well known to local lifeguards off Puerto de Sagunto beach in Valencia.
