Zombies roam free in Brazil for annual Sao Paulo parade

Sporting ghoulish faces, blank eyes and bloody body parts, hundreds of zombies staggered and stumbled through the streets in Sao Paulo for the city’s eerie and annual zombie walk. Wearing gruesome costumes and make-up, the self-proclaimed “undead” groaned through the city’s downtown area as Brazil marked All Souls’ Day.

The city first celebrated the parade of the walking dead in 2007 and the event has since grown in popularity with thousands turning out for the occasion. The Zombie Walk phenomenon began in Sacramento, California in 2001. Since then, the event has spread to major cities around the world including New York, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Singapore, Santiago, Mexico City and Frankfurt.
