Case filed in UAE against Udayanga Weeratunge will be taken up on the 29th of this month

The Attorney General has informed the court that the case filed in the United Arab Emirates with respect to former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia UdayangaWeeratunge is due to be taken up on the 29th of this month. The Attorney General’s Department believes that a certain order on the suspect would be made on this occasion.

Counsel UdaraKarunatilake appearing on behalf of the Attorney General made this intimation to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court when the case on the MiG transaction was taken up for hearing today.

The Magistrate issued notices on two Ukranian nationals to arrive at the Financial Crimes Investigation Division on or before the 21st of December to give a statement. The Magistrate also ordered to direct this notice to the international. Investigative officials said that the said foreigners had maintained accounts in the island.

The Attorney General’s Department informed that details of the accounts were being investigated. It was also mentioned in Courts that they have been living in a flat in the country.

The Court was also informed that information on them had been sought from 15 countries.
