Gilmore narrowly misses chance to win world surfing title in France

The World Surf League women’s championship will be decided in the final round after Australia’s Stephanie Gilmore failed to take the title in France. The six-time world champion was knocked out in round three of the Roxy Pro France event in Soorts-Hossegor, southwest France. She missed out on a spot in the quarter-finals by just 0.06 points on her last wave. Her main rival in the championship, the U.S.’s Lakey Peterson, failed to capitalise on Gilmore’s mistakes. She was also eliminated in round three. Gilmore just needed to finish ahead of Peterson to win the world title. The decider will now take place in Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii from November 25 – December 6.
