Southwest China nature reserve rangers run into sleeping wild panda cub

Two nature reserve rangers happen to ran into a sleeping wild giant panda cub in a tree cave in the Dafengding Nature Reserve located in Meigu County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, on September 23. It has been the first wild panda cub found in the reserve since its establishment 40 years ago.

The discovery was made by two rangers from the reserve administration at an altitude of 3,000 meters. The panda cub was found sleeping in a cave on a tree measuring 140 cm in diameter and 80 cm in width. The cave is about 50 cm away from the ground.

The two rangers moved away quickly after taking several photos of the panda cub which was confirmed to be less than two months old. The den was the first of its kind spotted in the reserve over the past 40 years.
