WHO officials visit Congo hospital to assess Ebola response

World Health Organization officials visited a hospital in Beni in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to monitor the ongoing response to an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus and discuss areas that need particular support.Health workers in protective suits were seen administering injections to people in tents set up at the general hospital.The Ministry of Public Health launched Ebola vaccinations for high risk populations in North Kivu province. This came a week after the announcement of a second outbreak of Ebola in the country this year. The first outbreak ended less than two weeks ago after killing 33 people.This is Congo’s 10th Ebola outbreak since the virus was first identified near northern Congo’s Ebola river.So far 43 people are believed to have been infected in North Kivu and Ituri provinces, including 36 who have died, the ministry confirmed.
