Japan’s support for economic development and resettlement
Japan has underlined that it will further give support to Sri Lanka’s economic development. Japan also pledged support to the resettlement of the displaced in the North.
This assurance was given when Ministers Prof. G.L.Peiris and Basil Rajapaksa, who are now on a visit to Japan met Japan’s special representative Yasushi Akashi. Their discussions mainly focused on the development projects mooted by Sri Lanka. Mr. Akashi further assured Japan’s continued support for the rebuilding of the island, with the total elimination of terrorism.
The repeal of Emergency regulations with the return of normality of the country, the appointment of a Commission by the President on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation, the discussions between the Government and the political parties and initiatives taken towards constitutional reform were explained by the Ministers to Mr. Akashi. They also met Chairman of the Japan Association of Travel Agents Akira Kanai and its members.
