The Government has decided to appoint a special committee to look into violations of Labour Rules and Regulations. The Committee will be headed by Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, Mahinda Madihahewa.

Officials of Industries and Trade and Foreign Ministries are included in the Committee. The Committee is expected to issue instructions to Security, Education, Port and Aviation Ministries. The special committee will investigate into several aspects including employment of minors and present context of employment agreements. The Government believes that by appointing the special committee, it will be able to provide an enhanced and quality employment culture to local workers.
