31 new tanks are being built

31 new tanks are being constructed within the Mahaweli D Zone.

This particular Zone is being developed under the Moragahakanda Reservoir scheme. Accordingly action has been taken to construct 31 new tanks. The construction was launched under the auspices of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. The Minister also declared open the Mahaweli Unit Management office of the Bisopura New Town coming under the Medirigiriya Divisional Secretariat Division in the Polonnaruwa Division. The Minister said their intention was to pass on the benefits of the Mahaweli D Scheme to the people.

The Minister opined that he would expedite the handing over of lands coming under the purview of the Mahaweli D Zone. More than 650 families within the Zone will initially be allocated land before resettling outsiders and Deputy Minister Siripala Gamlath was present.
